I think the private insurance industry has had a long enough time to have a trigger. We know what happens left to their own devices. This is about having an alternative, to give much more leverage to the individual. And the president has said, if you like the insurance that you have, you like your doctor, you can keep them. Well, most people, many people feel good about all of that, but they don’t know what’s going to happen to the cost.In other words, the Republicans keep talking about how we need to let the insurance companies continue to rake in billions upon billions of dollars in profits while individuals are continuously denied coverage. That is unacceptable and the public deserves to have a more accessible option.

Video: Pelosi Stands By Public Option
We absolutely must pass health care reform that includes a public option and I'm glad to see that Speaker Pelosi appears to understand this concept. As Pelosi said in regards to whether there should be some waiting period before a public option kicks in, the big insurance companies have had a chance and now we must give the public the option of picking an alternative.
