HUGE BREAKING NEWS: Specter to Change Parties

According to Chris Cillizza, Sen. Arlen Specter will be joining the Democratic Party and will running for reelection in 2010 as a Democrat. Specter's reasoning for switching parties is that the Republicans have lost touch with the general public while the Democrats are promoting common sense solutions.
"I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary," said Specter in a statement. "I am ready, willing and anxious to take on all comers and have my candidacy for re-election determined in a general election."

He added: "Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."
This is obviously a big parliamentary victory as it now gives the Democrats a super-majority of 60 seats which could be extremely useful in combating the Republicans who all too often try to stand in the way of productive leadership. As there are some big issues that are going to be considered in Congress, it'll be interesting to see how this move affects the Senate's ability to move forward on things like health care reform.
