Moran Hosts Economic Discussion Tonight

Jim Moran will be hosting a discussion tonight (Monday, July 28) at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria that's being marketed under the title "An Economy on the Brink: A Legacy of Debt, Its Impact on Our Children and How We Can Break the Cycle." According to Moran's website, the event will be in the school's auditorium and will feature David M. Walker, who is the head of the Government Accountability Office among other things.
What: Congressman Moran to host a town hall discussion on the economy, its impact on Northern Virginia and what steps we need to take to strengthen it. Keynote speaker David Walker will provide his perspective on budgetary and economic issues as the former Comptroller General, a position responsible for auditing the financial statements of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Office of Management and Budget.

Background: Mr. Walker became President of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation in March 2008, an organization founded by billionaire philanthropist Peter Peterson. Mr. Peterson established the foundation to tackle critical challenges threatening the nation's well-being including: large and growing budget deficits, dismal national and personal savings rates, and a ballooning national debt that endangers the viability of Social Security, Medicare, and our entire economy.
I personally believe that one of the greatest services our elected officials can do is to help inform the public about the important issues of the day and what the government is going to do to address them. It is a two way street, however, because people have to show up and really engage their elected officials if they want these discussions to be productive. I therefore encourage everyone to join me in attending this discussion tonight to hear what Rep. Moran and Mr. Walker have to say and maybe even ask them a question or two.
